Year 5 and 6

**This page is still under construction**

Welcome to Upper Key Stage Two

We have three classes in upper key stage 2:

Beech Class - Year 5 - Mrs Tyrens
Sycamore Class - Year 5/6 - Mr Farmer (starting Feb 2026)
Elm Class - Year 6 - Mrs Gardiner

Our teaching assistants are: Mrs Parmley, Mrs Wilson, Mrs Craig, Miss Dominey, Mrs Gascoigne and Miss Umenura.

SEND Provision

Some children in our class also access 'Pathways', which is an inclusive, self-funded SEND bases supporting children with complex needs, who may find the mainstream classroom overwhelming.

The children have access to the full curriculum and are taught it at their own pace; there is a focus on social and emotional skills. The philosophy is to enable the child to be emotionally literate, resilient, confident and we usually find that once a child has these elements in their tool kit, the academic side of the curriculum flourishes.

Our Curriculum

We cover a range of interesting topics across the school year. The yearly overview provided gives an insight to some of the activities your child will be participating in and experiencing each term.

 PE Lessons

**Awaiting information for the spring term**

Please make sure your child has their P.E. kit in school and it is named.

All of our children in KS2 attend weekly swimming lessons. A full kit is required each week. Long hair should be tied up securely, or a swimming cap can be worn. Jewellery must not be worn.

Reading

All children are strongly encouraged to read daily and to foster a love of reading, choosing to do it for pleasure.

Books are shared regularly and celebrated in class and we have daily reading time in school.

We expect all children to read at least 4 times a week at home.
