Religious Education
Our goal is for children to develop a deeper understanding of the six major world religions, exploring beliefs in a way that is appropriate for their age.
We strive to build pupils' knowledge, empathy, and communication skills, helping them engage respectfully with diverse perspectives. All religious beliefs are treated with equal respect, and we value strong connections between home, school, and the wider North East community.
Recognising that each religion enriches learning, we aim to expand pupils’ experiences beyond their immediate surroundings. Our Religious Education promotes open enquiry and first-hand experiences, encouraging both staff and children to explore, question, and reflect. As a result, pupils learn to appreciate and respect different faiths, ask meaningful questions, and develop their own understanding of religion and belief.
Please note: Parents and carers have the right to withdraw their child from some or all Religious Education (RE) lessons if they wish to do so.

Religious Education in EYFS
The Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum supports children’s understanding of Religious Education through the planning and teaching of ‘Understanding the World’. Children are encouraged to use their imagination and curiosity to develop their appreciation of, and wonder at, the world in which they live. Exploring others views, cultures and beliefs supports children in developing their views and beliefs about themselves, their family and community. In finding out about others, young children are encouraged to reflect on belief, culture and practice and explore faith through observing festivals and celebrations, sharing stories, visuals, toys and puppets, handling real artefacts, roleplay, books and discussion.
Religious Education in KS1 and KS2
Our Religious Education curriculum is taught according to the Agreed Syllabus for Religious Education in Durham. Teachers teach R.E as a discrete subject, yet plan for cross-curricular links where appropriate. Our children develop skills across three areas: Knowledge and Understanding of Religion, Critical Thinking and Personal Reflection. Children have the opportunity to visit a range of places of worship as part of their learning.
