Spring 2 2025
This half term, in Lower Key Stage 2, our enquiry question is linked to Geography where we explore ‘Is the UK the same everywhere?’. We will use maps and satellite images to identify physical and human features including significant landmarks.
In DT, we will be learning about ‘Food’. We will taste and evaluate Cous Cous before designing and creating our own. Of course we will practise a range of safe preparation and cooking techniques!
In RE, we will be considering ‘What is ‘good’ about ‘Good Friday?’ Our Easter Egg Decorating Competition is always a hit!
In Computing, we will be developing our coding skills using ‘Scratch’.
In Science, we will be learning about ‘Light’. We will consider sources of light and their uses and potential dangers. We will find and have fun creating shadows and investigate how the distance from the light source affects the size of a shadow!
In Maths, Year 3 will focus on Measurement and Fractions while Year 4 will work on Fractions and Decimals. We will continue to develop our quick recall of number facts and carry on with our Times Table Rock Stars and NumBots journey.
In Literacy, we will be reading ‘A Bear Called Paddington’ by Michael Bond. We will also enjoy ‘Poems to Perform’ by Julia Donaldson. We look forward to World Book Day too where we will turn our classrooms into ‘Book Bistros’!
After watching Year 4’s amazing drumming performance last half term, Year 3 are excited for their drumming lessons with our visiting specialist music teacher! Wow!
Spring 1 2025
Year 3&4 Spring 1 2025
In the first half of the spring term Years 3 and 4 will be exploring the Ancient Greeks! Our enquiry question is How do we remember the Ancient Greeks? We will explore different sources to help understand when the Ancient Greeks lived, the differences between Sparta and Athens and also achievements that have had a lasting impact on our lives.
During spring 1 it will be Safer Internet Day on the 11th February and we will be exploring protecting ourselves and others from scams online. We will also be learning about different dangers with online gaming and social media apps such as TikTok and Fortnite. We will be discussing how to protect our identity online.
In support of Children’s Mental Health week, we will be exploring mindfulness in PE as well as listening to stories and understanding our emotions through a charity called ‘Place 2 Be’. We will complete our own ‘Islands of Personality’ to help us understand what makes us happy.
In Science we will continue on from our work with rocks and fossils to learn about different types of soil and we will design, complete and record own investigations. We will also begin to learn about the different types of forces such as push, pull and friction. We will complete more investigations and interpret our data gathered.
In RE we will continue learning about Christianity and discuss the question ‘Could Jesus heal people?’ We will learn about the meaning of miracles, through stories from the Bible and understanding that people have different opinions about miracles.
Year 3 will also be attending a multi sports festival at Maiden Castle, Durham.

In Lower Key Stage 2, our enquiry question is 'Why is the North East Special?'. We will be delving into our local area and finding out about the River Tyne's journey from the source of the river to the river mouth.
In DT, we are exploring levers and linkages using VEXGO. We are building a series of robots with different linkages and levers that aid the robot in “walking”. Once we have tested all three robots will be race them against each other!
In RE we are focusing on Christianity and answering the question “Has Christmas lost it’s true meaning?” by looking at a traditional Christmas and a more modern Christmas that we know today.
In Computing, we are capturing and editing digital still images to produce a stop frame animation that tells a story.
In Science, we are beginning our new topic of “Rocks and Fossils”. We will be answering “What do rocks tell us about how the Earth was formed?” alongside exploring how fossils are formed.
In Maths, following on from place value, we are focussing on addition and subtraction. We are introducing column method for addition and subtraction up to 3-digit numbers to the Year 3 cohort. Whereas Year 4 will be continuing to develop this method up to 4-digit numbers. We will then move onto multiplication and division facts, giving the Year 4’s plenty of time to brush up on their times tables before their multiplication test in 2025.
In Literacy this half term, both Year 3 and Year 4 will be reading “The Wild Robot” by Peter Brown. Through this book we will be planning and writing our own letter, writing our own narrative piece and writing a descriptive passage. We will also be working on our comprehension, punctuation and grammar and spelling along the way.
Autumn 1 2024
This half term, in Lower Key Stage 2, our enquiry question is ‘How can we rediscover the wonders of Ancient Egypt?’. We will be asking questions and finding answers to questions such as Where is Egypt and how does it fit into history?, Why was the Nile important to Ancient Egyptians?, What was life like for Ancient Egyptians?, Who build the pyramids and why? Who was king Tut?

In Art, we will explore Ancient Egyptian Art. We will create our own side profile Pharaoh portraits inspired by the art inside the tombs of the pyramids!
In RE we will be learning about what Hindus learn from the story of Rama and Sita.
In Computing, we will be developing our skills to create a presentation using PowerPoint.
In Science, we will be learning about animals, including humans. We will consider ‘How can animals be sorted and grouped based on their skeletons? and explore ‘What is a balanced diet and is it important?’
In Maths, we are very excited to be improving our fluency and place value of number and to develop our quick recall of number facts. We will continue to enjoy Mathletics, Times Table Rock Stars and NumBots to consolidate and extend our learning in Maths.
In Literacy, Year 3 will be reading ‘The Worst Witch’ by author Jill Murphy. While Year 4 will read ‘Amelia Fang and the Barbaric Ball’ by Laura Ellen Anderson. We will also delve into non-fiction books to find information about The Egyptians.

2023-2024
Literacy
In literacy this half term we have reading Stig of the Dump, in the story Barney meets a boy called Stig, who is from the Stone Age. In the story Stig teaches Barney how to do Cave paintings. We had a go at creating our own, using charcoal pencils and powdered paint.
Using ideas from the book we wrote diary entries as Barney.
Maths
This term our maths topic has been Place Value. During this topic we have used dice to order and compare numbers. We learnt how to partition 3 and 4 digit numbers in different ways. Finally, we learnt how to round to the nearest 10, 100 and 1,000. 5 climb the vine, 4 to the floor.
History
Our History topic this term has been Stone Age to Iron Age, We have been archaeologists and investigated how life changed from the Stone Age to the Iron Age.
PE
In PE we have been doing gymnastics, we even went on a gymnastic trip, used trampolines, balance beams and gymnastics bars!
